At Balance Health Centre I will assess relevant aspects of your medical history, diet, lifestyle and general health to determine why you have come to experience your current symptoms. Understanding why these symptoms have come about is essential in the development of a successful therapeutic plan.

Your therapeutic plan may include common foods, herbal medicine, vitamin and mineral supplements to assist the body in its healing process and is designed to provide symptomatic relief whilst incorporating specific treatments that prevent its recurrence.

Herbal Medicine / Herbal Tonics

Herbal Medicine is the therapeutic use of plant extracts for the prevention and treatment of illness – Herbalists & Naturopaths are trained extensively in the therapeutics of herbs as medicine. At Balance Health Centre, herbal tonics are prescribed to those who suffer from chronic, persistent complaints such as allergies (asthma and eczema), hormonal problems such as (menopause, PMS and painful, irregular or difficult periods), headache (including migraine), IBS, arthritis (both rheumatoid and osteoarthritis).

Helen will work with you to develop a dietary and lifestyle plan to improve your health. At the end of your assessment, you will be provided with an individualised report of the screening findings.

Lymphatic Drainage Massage

The Lymphatic System forms a part of our immune system, and is the body's purification system that keeps a balance amongst the soft tissues performing their different functions. Lymphatic Drainage Massage (LDM) is a gentle and slow whole body treatment which relaxes the nervous system and aids the immune system. It involves a range of specialised and gentle rhythmic pumping techniques to move lymph flow through a network of lymph vessels and lymph nodes. This supports the body to naturally eliminate excess toxins, dead cells, viruses, bacteria and chemicals. The benefits of this massage are:

- Relieving fluid congestion/retention
- Promoting wound healing especially bruising, swelling, and sport injuries
- Relieving stress and anxiety

This method is gaining acceptance in the treatment and control of lymphedema.

Remedial Massage

Remedial massage is a deep tissue massage used to release chronic patterns of muscular tension using slow strokes, direct pressure, or friction directed across the grain of the muscles using the fingers, thumbs, or elbows. It is applied with greater pressure, to deeper layers of muscle, and with greater specificity than Swedish. Recommended for upper back, neck and shoulder and lower back soreness.

Swedish Massage

Swedish massage uses a system of long gliding strokes, kneading, and friction techniques on the more superficial layers of muscles, generally in the direction of blood flow toward the heart because there is an emphasis on improving blood flow to the soft tissues, and sometimes combined with active and passive movements of the joints. It is used to promote general relaxation, improve circulation and range of motion, and relieve muscle tension.

Aromatherapy Massage

Aromatherapy massage offers a more holistic approach and may include some of the principles of Swedish massage, yet will concentrate on more relaxing strokes, but of prime importance is the selection of essential oil/s used during the massage. Depending on the aromatic oils used, a massage can be a relaxing and calming experience or invigorating and energizing, dispelling tension and restoring well being.

Iridology

Iridology is the scientific analysis of patterns and structures in the iris of the eye which locates areas and stages of inflammation throughout the body. The iris is the portion of the eye showing colour. It reveals body constitution, inherent strengths and weaknesses, health levels, and transitions that take place in a person's body according to their way of life.

A complete iris analysis will show whether a person exhibits a generally good constitution or a poor one, depending upon the density of the iris fibres, The patterns, structures, colours and degrees of lightness and darkness in the iris tell if an area of the body is inherently strong or weak.
