The Flu what you need to know

To my BHC clients - Echinacea as seen on TV -  was recommended as an alternative treatment for the flu symptoms - by GP/Specialist.  Herbalists like myself are thrilled with this revelation. Clinical trials suggest Echincea does relieve cold and flu.  But isn't that what Herbalists and Naturopaths have been saying for some time now!

Ok - what you need to know is this - THE POTENT ECHINACEA should come in the form of a herbal tonic - a herbal tonic consists of several herbs mixed in an alcohol solution - it contains all the magical chemical constituents of the herbs which will help you to treat both acute and chronic conditions namely the flu virus, bronchitis, sinusitis, EBV, Ross river Virus, Hepatitis and so on... As herbalists we use herbal tonics as in the case of flu virus to prevent a cytokine storm (white blood cells, natural killer cells, macrophages - inflammatory mediators getting out of control) this is when you feel unwell - these cytokines generated by your immune response account for most of your flu symptoms. The lymphocytes (T and B cells) also come into play...they are part of your adaptive immunity (your past history, what you have encountered along the way and your immune system remembers it) -  it does this by having antibodies which help destroy the antigen should you be exposed to it again......love the lymphocytes - they look amazing under the microscope.

Now as most of you know there is wide range of Echinacea products available at chemists, health foods stores and even supermarkets promising miracles for cold and flu relief.    My  advice to you is this always buy Practitioner and Therapeutic Range only.   Qualified Naturopaths and Herbalists such as myself have all these wonderful herbs on hand ready to be formulated.

Secondly,  if your Echinacea product has a pleasant taste and does not leave an odd sensation around the mouth and tongue for at least 2-5 minutes as well as salivation thereafter - then the efficacy of that product should be questioned.

Where can I purchase Herbal Tonics?

Herbal tonics can only be prepared by a qualified Herbalist.  Each tonic is individualized to suit your needs which is quite different to prepackaged products available to the masses.  Herbal tonic contains up to 6+ different herbs mixed together in a 200ml bottle.  The tonics are available at Balance Health Centre.  A brief consult is required to prepare a suitable and effective tonic for you.

Therapeutic Practitioner Range Capsules  are also available at my Clinic - for those having difficulty taking tonics - they are safe and effective to use both short and long term.

Herbal Tonic Benefits:
